Dawson Creek District Manager to Assess Needs for New Area

Peace River bridge fire cuts rail route in BC north
A spectacular blaze destroyed a 1300 foot wooden trestle of the BC Rail Bridge over the Peace River on October 21 after a runaway fuel car derailment spilled contents and exploded. Seventeen locomotives were trapped and up to 65 cars daily were affected, threatening lumber, petroleum, grain and sulphur shipments from Fort Nelson, Fort St John, and Taylor. Recovery and temporary crossing plans include a Bailey bridge and truck rerouting, with service hoped to resume by year end.
