Chetwynd Receives Housing Starts Grant From Province
Honourable James G. Lorimer and Alf Nunweiler announced a 32 housing starts cheque to Chetwynd under the Natural Gas Revenue Sharing Act. The grant is 100 per net housing start, with deductions for demolitions, and total BC disbursements exceeded 2.8 million for the year. Chetwynd’s 1975 allocation totals 3200 dollars.

Chetwynd Village Expands Services With New Shops
Village services are expanding despite a weak economy with a Barber Shop a second Beauty Salon and a certified electrician added in the past month. Under construction are the Shell and foundation for a Hotel addition the I G A new store and a high school shop. A laundromat opens this weekend as 32 housing starts and several renovations occur. The I G A store nears closing while the Hotel awaits milder weather to sheet in before winter. See laundromat opening Pages 4-5.

Village cuts LIP funds for multiple projects
The Village of Chetwynd learns LIP applications totaling 51400 were reduced to 36000. Funds cover fire hall, parks, playgrounds, ball diamond, and a village records and mapping position. Moberly Lake golf course grant declined. Project chair Bob Menzies seeks further funds from MP. Moberly Lake Youth Centre to receive 11500 for improvements. No word on other approvals.

Attendance Centre program seeks teacher for Chetwynd facility
School District No 59 plans to hire a teacher for an Attendance Centre in Chetwynd to educate 12 to 17 year olds in an educational rehabilitation setting. Desks and books will be supplied. two child care workers are being sought. The program is sponsored by Chetwynd Area Community Resources Society with space sought for fifteen students. Funding requests were made to three departments and funds indicated by two. The teacher starts November 1st with enrollment when space is ready.

Teachers vote against exemption in Chetwynd area
Over 60 percent of Chetwynd area teachers voted Tuesday October 21 to oppose a BCTF proposal seeking exemption from the federal government ten per cent wage ceiling. In a secret ballot 25 of 41 teachers voting opposed the BCTF plan, backing the federal guidelines as bargaining for about 20 percent increases proceeds.
