11 Year Old Girl Saves Brother From House Fire
Maureen Cass, home sick with Michael, escaped a fast spreading blaze at East Pine home Oct 11 1972. Maureen dragged her panicked brother and a kitten to safety as flames engulfed the building, neighbors aided but all possessions were lost. 4-H Beef Club members then traveled to Stettler Alberta for a field trip to San Dan Farms and Lazy A Ranch producers of Charolais cattle led by Nick Negu and Jo Negu.

Chetwynd Jaycees Host Regional Convention Highlights
Willard Dunn won the Convention Fellowship Award for tireless work with Penny Dunn to make the Chetwynd convention a success. The event featured San Dan cattle, barn layouts, and a show barn at Harvey Anderson's Lazy A Ranch. Delegates toured Edmonton and Grande Prairie, toured ranch facilities, and heard Curt Rodgers auction cattle priced from 950 to 7700 dollars. The club thanks supporters including the Rodeo Club and Ray Rebagliati, with plans for Angus shows at Fairview and a Kamloops spring show for South Peace Beef Clubs.

Contest winner Iris Berg nets 100 in tourism essay prize
Iris Berg, a 1972 Chetwynd Secondary School graduate and current Vancouver Vocational Institute hairdressing student, won 100 in a province wide essay contest sponsored by the British Columbia Department of Tourism. A Dawson Creek student was the only other Northern B.C. winner. The Coss family, displaced by a fire, prepare to move trailers to Fast Pine and thank the community for support.

District plants 170000 trees in three years
The Chetwynd Ranger District reports 170000 trees planted over the last three years. Johnson Creek area near Hudson Hope and Walton Creek south west of Chetwynd has been replanted three times in two years. Planting uses two year nursery stock and an eight by eight foot grid with 8 hour days.
