Funding fuel cells promise for regional energy plan
The federal and provincial governments will invest 13 million dollars under the Western Economic Partnership Agreement to boost fuel cell development. Fuel Cells Canada receives 980 thousand to form a non profit and coordinate demonstration projects. 12.02 million remains for further demonstrations. The effort partners government, private sector and education to build a cluster of fuel cell developers and balance of plant technologies. Fuel cells generate electricity from natural gas, methanol or hydrogen with only water vapour and heat as byproducts, offering a path to lower greenhouse gas emissions and broader commercial use.
