BC Hydro pays taxes and grants in lieu across BC in 2000
BC Hydro paid 2000 taxes and grants in lieu totaling about 138.3 million for the province, down from 1999. Of this, roughly 97.4 million funded school taxes and 40.2 million supported local governments and rural areas. other taxes composed the rest. In Vancouver, BC Hydro paid 2000 school taxes of 50,634.51 to the District of Chetwynd, plus 148,123.34 in grants in lieu and 1,462.19 in other taxes. An extra 424,075 in grants in lieu for dams and stations went to Peace River Regional District.

Pine River cleanup report from Pembina meeting role
At a Pembina Pipeline information meeting a dozen residents heard a Pine River cleanup report. Northwest Hydraulics engineers the log jams about three kilometres from control point one. 125 workers along the river plus site crews use heavy equipment for a laborious reconstruction with safety gear and bear alert protocols. Tests at 15 sampling points show very low oil concentrations.

Premier announces expanded home care in British Columbia
At a Vancouver conference Premier Ujjal Dosanjh unveiled a health action plan adding 9.3 million for expanded home-care services including home support, community rehabilitation and nursing. The plan comes atop 400 million already allocated this year, with initial funding commitments to be announced in November by Health Minister Mike Farnworth after consulting with health authorities and interest groups. Continuing care targets seniors, disabled individuals, younger adults with chronic illness, terminal patients, and those needing short term support.
