Crookewit declines bid for Hudon's Hope mayor
Hud son's Hope city council heard that Mayor John Crookewit will not seek another term as the two year finish this year. End of tourist season at Chetwynd Information Centre
The Information Centre in Chetwynd closed on September 30 after hosting 2788 tourists from Germany to New Zealand. Visitors praised the area and sought road conditions, site maps, hunting and fishing spots, and liquor store information while asking about coal and gas exploration and Alcan Highway conditions. First independent schools inspector named in British Columbia
Education Minister Dr. Pat McGeer announced the appointment of Joe Phillipson as British Columbia’s first inspector of independent schools. The veteran educator, born in Prince Rupert and raised in Sooke and Victoria, will assume duties October 3 after a 40-year career that spanned teaching, three principalships, two northern district roles, and a stint as deputy minister from 1970 to 1973. Phillipson also resigns as associate deputy minister earlier this month.
