Last of four turbine runners reaches Peace Canyon Dam
Four 200-ton turbine runners built by Lingrad Metal Works in Russia arrived near Hudson Hope on September 14 1979. Apex Industrial Movers Ltd led the 1000 mile overland route through Vancouver Kemano Tashta Lake Kenny Dam Engen Vanderhoof Nechako River Williston Lake and Bennett Dam to the Peace Canyon dam site. The $4.2 million moving project is the largest in recent history with the dam set to start generating by year end and be fully operational within a year.

B C Hydro announced schedule to fill the Peace Canyon reservoir beginning Saturday October 6 for six weeks. River bank instability may cause slides and large waves endangering boaters and adjacent shores. Water levels can change quickly. a boat launch near the power plant will open next spring. First generator comes online this year. by 1980 all four generators will add 700000 kilowatts for customers.

Gas rate rise approved by British Columbia commission
The British Columbia Energy Commission approves an interim refundable rate increase for Northland Utilities (B.C.) Limited effective October 1, 1979. Interim rates, set to be refunded at 10.5 percent after a public hearing, raise average residential bills in Dawson Creek to 316.30, Pouce Coupe to 349.60, and Rolla to 383.35.
