Hannen elected bishop in Caledonia diocese
Canon John E. Hannen known as Father John will be consecrated bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Caledonia on February 15, 1981 in Prince Rupert. He was elected on the seventeenth ballot by the Diocesan Synod at Smithers. succeeds Bishop Douglas Hambridge who becomes bishop of New Westminster.

Voter turnout reached 62 percent of 829 eligible voters for the November 15 Chetwynd election. Among 704 listed voters, 25 percent were sworn in on election day. Aldermanic results show M Hoover re-elected with 274 votes. E M Hoffman 121. Bob Manly 112. Bill Mathson 101. Bob Walkden 77. 3 ballots rejected and 1 spoiled. Hudson Hope aldermen were acclaimed. Noreen Stubley and Dan Gilbey re elected for two terms, Heinz Hieber to serve remaining year of Heather Scorey’s seat.

The Chetwynd library measure won 71 percent with 82 Yes and 33 No from 115 voters in Dawson Creek. Recreational and Cultural Services referendum gained 54 percent with 1192 Yes and 1010 No. Fort St John theatre complex failed again as City supported it while Electoral areas B and C and Taylor village rejected it. Total ballots: 1589 Yes and 1601 No.
