Remembrance Day Services In Chetwynd Honor Sacrifices

A Remembrance Day ceremony in Chetwynd began at the Cenotaph with the Legion wreath laid and a Last Post. Legion President Frank Barron led a full house program while Pastor Bill Evans posed questions on youth remembrance and meaning. Scotty Brewster laid the Unknown Soldier wreath as RCMP, Chetwynd Rangers, Air Cadets, Legion groups, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts and Brownies contributed wreaths.

Tools to fight homelessness at UBCM conference

At last month's UBCM gathering municipalities received two planning guides Local Responses to Homelessness a Planning Guide for B C Communities and Planning for Housing to aid comprehensive development zoning and affordable housing. The ministers emphasize coordinated efforts across government and non profit sectors to ensure informed local planning and public involvement in housing projects like Windrem Housing Society's proposed affordable homes.

Premier to announce five million acre Muskwa Kechika expansion

Premier Dosanjh is set to reveal a decision on adding five million acres to the Muskwa Kechika Management Area in northern British Columbia. The move follows a three year period in which 11 million acres were set aside as parks and special management areas to advance conservation management and protect diverse wildlife.

Canfor records Q3 2000 loss amid low lumber prices

Canfor reports third quarter 2000 net sales of 558.2 million, down from 581.8 million, with operating income of 55.3 million and a Wood Products segment loss of 16.1 million. CEO David Emerson cites low lumber prices, stumpage costs, and export quota impacts under the Softwood Lumber Agreement. Market SPF prices fall as U S supply remains high.
