Pine Valley Coal project advances toward trial cargo

The Pine Valley Coal mine plans a trial shipment of 100000 tonnes of thermal coal to Japan, with a long term contract possible if buyers accept. Inspectors say the coal will be hauled via track through Willow Creek forest road to a loading facility, with sediment control and dust monitoring in place and monitoring results sent to Prince George.

Fingerprint Clinic Promotes Child Safety in Crime Prevention Week

The Chetwynd Women's Resource Centre hosted a fingerprinting clinic at Chetwynd Public Library during Crime Prevention Week. Parents had 90 sets of fingerprints taken for child identification, kept by parents for use if a child goes missing.

Westcoast plans Grizzy Extension and Kween plant proposal

Westcoast Energy proposes a Grizzy Extension pipeline and a Kween gas plant to optimize gas output with reduced emissions. Public meetings drew 25 residents in Chetwynd and 120 in Tumbler Ridge as Doug Thornycroft outlined plans and schedules for 2001 construction and job creation. The Kween plant will capture carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide and re inject wastes into nearby depleted wells. The plant will be hydro powered with minimal particulate emissions, while Pine River plants would emit 15 tonnes of sulfur dioxide daily. Ministry confirmation noted.
