British Columbia expands the cooling off period to seven days for contracts made with door to door salespersons. Consumer minister Rafe Maire says the change helps consumers discuss purchases at home and verify options with others. The measure covers statutory contracts but not small or infrequent outside premises deals.
Public libraries in the Peace will host a speaking tour by Dick Turner, author of Nahanni Wings of the North and Sunrise on the Mackenzie. Turner, a Northwest Territories veteran of 45 years who has worked as a trapper prospector tugboat operator fur trader expeditor and pilot, will appear in Fort Nelson Fort St. John Chetwynd Hudson Hope and Dawson Creek on November 21 23 24 25 and 27 respectively.
Mayor Charles Lasser will serve another two years in Chetwynd after winning unopposed re election. Five aldermanic candidates contest two seats with incumbents Carl Schmok and Willard Dunn seeking re election along with Robert Walkden E M Bunne Hoffman and Matt Offer. Ernie Pfanner, school trustee, failed to file in time for District 59 School Board as papers were rejected. A stewardship meeting is scheduled November 14 at 7 30 p m in the Arena where candidates will speak.
Consumer and Corporate Affairs Minister Rafe Mair announced a new Residential Tenancy Act effective November 1. The act caps rent increases at 7 percent annually retroactive to May 1, 1977, with exceptions for certain premises and unusual situations. It also ends landlord charges for mobile home park space assignments and allows rent reductions for service cuts. Notices must use new forms, and rents are to be rounded to the nearest dollar. Tenants may seek relief from the Rent Review Commission, and occupancy charges may be retained only under specific pre January 1, 1978 authorizations.

Dolores Foster resigns as Administrator. Moray Stewart named Administrator and treasurer-elect. will start early next year from Dawson Creek Medical Clinic. Wally Braul named Planner. Colin Reid to serve as Recreation Co ordinator for one year. The Board explores an Industrial Commissioner role under new federal provincial agreements.
