B C Railway Sued Over $7.5 Million Tunnel Contract

Scarmar Constructions Ltd. of Prince George files a B C Supreme Court writ against B C Railway seeking $7.5 million in damages on 25 counts of alleged negligence false representation and civil fraud. The U S owned firm was hired to drive half of a nine kilometre Table Tunnel under the Rocky Mountains for the $900 million northeast coal branchlines project, has completed 77 percent, and remains on site.

Frontier Days Rodeo Weekend Planned in Chetwynd

Frontier Days will run June 6 to 12 in Chetwynd with a rodeo and several fundraisers. Funds benefit the Fetal Heart Monitor fund. events include a Friday Bingo, Saturday Pancake Breakfast, Rodeo Parade and rodeo shows, plus a casino night and dance sponsored by local groups.

Local artists perform during council weekend

Local musicians and stage performers donated their time for delegates of the B C Assembly of Arts Councils last weekend in Chetwynd. Highlights included Robin Roller on five string banjo with Bob Roller bass and Dr Ron Woodworth guitar, plus two plays from Chetwynd Secondary School Drama Club and performances by Spirit at Happy Hollow Rest Home.

College weighs effects of ruling on taxpayer impact

The College of New Caledonia faces consequences from arbitration ordering reinstatement of five of six laid off faculty. Chairman Bob Stewart says the full financial effect will be discussed at the May 114th meeting. Potential costs could reach about 189000 dollars in salaries plus interest and fringe benefits.
