Peace country first slow pitch league in Chetwynd
The Chetwynd Recreation Commission starts a slow-pitch softball league this season, a Peace country first. Five teams including Police Cantor Rovers and two High School teams will play a 12 game schedule on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday at 7 at the men's and school diamonds. Pitching is underarm with no windmill, seven innings per game, five runs per inning max. First games this week. For information contact Vic Collins or Brian Pearce.

Province to create new parks in northern British Columbia
The provincial government plans two new provincial parks in northern BC including Tatlatui Park in the Peace River Liard region. Tatlatui would cover about 250000 acres in the Omineca Mountains west of Upper Williston Lake as part of seven major park proposals. Insurance self-retained fund proposed for BC school boards

Johnny Cash Returns Home After Hotel Stranded Boy Found
A four year old boy nicknamed Johnny Cash, from Chetwynd, was reunited with his family after being found stranded in front of a Prince George hotel last month. A Prince George newspaper appeal to contact the Department of Rehabilitation and Social Improvement led to his return. The boy had called himself Johnny Cash.

Six escape drowning after Kiskatinaw River rapids trip
Six South Peace residents on a weekend canoeing expedition along the Kiskatinaw River from Arras toward the Alaska Highway faced a near tragedy in rapids eight miles west of Farmington. Two canoes overturned. McGill and son walked to safety while another pair retrieved gear. Wreckage included Hall’s canoe and one craft split in two. One missing canoeist later found along Pine River about seven miles downstream.
