The province funds 444000 to upgrade Chetwynd airport apron taxiway and runway with the District adding 40000. The move follows a runway advisory and a 40000 study confirming drainage and asphalt deterioration. Repairs target major cracks trench settlements and culvert fixes by August.
Drivers with four wheel drive vehicles face hazards on the 11.5 kilometer highway stretch between Bijou Falls and Azouzetta Lake as rock fragments and thaw loosening gravel slow traffic. The Ministry of Transport projects completion was planned for September 1995 but faces delays according to project manager Gordon Wagner.
Voters in the Peace River South riding will head to the polls on May 28. Over the next three weeks the Chetwynd Echo profiles each candidate, with the first set appearing on page 9.
