Runway Advised Closure Impacts Medivac at Chetwynd Airport
Medivac jets could not land for two weeks ending last Thursday at Chetwynd airport after an April 12 advisory. Patients in serious condition were driven to Dawson Creek for airlift. Officials cited a 1200 foot runway reduction from a sewer backfill and winter heaving creating a dip and nosewheel issues. Doctors warn transportation to Edmonton or Vancouver may rise if runway worsens. Mayor notes risk to paramedics and ambulance care if flights remain unusable.
