Hudson's Hope Receives 5000 Grant for Downtown Revitalization
Minister Vander Zalm announced a five thousand dollar grant to the District of Hudson's Hope to develop a Downtown Revitalization Plan. The funds will support the council and local business community in setting priorities and creating a Beautification Concept Plan under the province's revitalization program begun in 1980.

Tender Called For Road Grading Contract In NE Coal Corridor
A new tender will be opened on March 24 for a 4.80 kilometre grading contract on the North East Coal Development Access Road between Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge. Announcement was made by Transportation and Highways Minister Alex Fraser and Industry and Small Business Development Minister Don.

Chetwynd-Tumbler Ridge Access Road Contract Awarded
A Fort St. John firm, Attachie Construction Ltd., won the $3,783,315 contract to build 13.4 kilometres of the Chetwynd Tumbler Ridge Access Road for the North East Coal Development. Work starts in April with about 30 workers, including drainage, gravel laying and preparation for paving. Total project cost is $5,310, including engineering supervision and materials, with completion targeted for fall 1983.

Fire destroys trailer. family seeks clothing donations
Saturday morning a trailer home owned by Gus Van Der Meullen burned completely while the family was away. Firefighters reached the scene in three minutes but two hydrants were not in service, hampering containment. Restraint Plan Hits School District Budgets in 1982
Superintendent Larry Thomas outlined a provincial financial restraint that requires the district to cut 360000 from the 1982 operating budget. The new education formula shifts tax burdens, increasing residential school taxes by about 36 dollars on the average home, while the district loses local control of commercial and industrial taxes. Highway contract awarded for Langley firm on BC link
A Langley firm won a 6 295 326 contract to build 13.9 kilometres of the 95 kilometre highway between Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge. Construction could begin in May with up to 75 workers, after April camp setup, weather permitting. Work includes drainage, gravel base, and removal of some culverts.

February B C Rail carloadings fall 26 percent
