Hal Smith Earns 25-Year Service Award at Banquet
Hal Smith general manager of Canfor Limiteds Chetwynd Division was among 75 employees honored at the tenth annual Twenty-Five Years Service Awards Banquet held by Canadian Forest Products and affiliates at the Hotel Vancouver. He is the first from the Chetwynd Division to qualify for the 25-Year Club. He began with the company at the Eburne sawmill.

Prince George Girl Wins Province Wide Anti Smoking Poster Contest
A 14 year old Prince George girl won the province wide contest among Grade 6 and 7 students for the Canadian Cancer Society anti smoking drive. Maarit Lahti from Central Fort George School drew the winning poster showing that non smoking is beautiful among 355 final entries. Hundreds of posters were eliminated earlier. The contest drew attention from thousands of schoolchildren across Prince George Peace River District.

TB seals campaign nets 485476 in year end total
The annual Christmas Seal Campaign peaked at 485 476 with final audit March 1 showing an 11 672 rise in receipts from last year. About 182 000 contributors responded to 616 000 appeals sent to homes across British Columbia in a three month effort. Funds support tuberculosis eradication and broader respiratory disease research. Salaries Push Hospital Budget Increases Sparked At Meeting
The Chetwynd General Hospital held its March 13, 1974 meeting in the dining room. Administrators and board members reported a 12 percent rise in non professional salaries and ongoing negotiations for nurses' pay. A south side patio is planned under the Village LIP with capital outlay of 600 dollars and 1600 for labour. The regional district funded 30,000 for paving in 1973 with 20,000 still owed and 10,000 more to be assessed, while the board aims to balance the budget for accreditation and operations.
