Governor General Opens CHET FM Station in Chetwynd

Adrienne Clarkson arrives on a Yukon Northwest Territories tour to open CHET FM Chetwynd station with 60 volunteers. Mayor Lasser and Leo Sabulsky join as Clarkson cuts the ribbon and goes on air. She speaks of love for Canada, meets local artists, and tours Pine Valley and area exhibits during a brief two hour visit.

Local Air Cadet chosen for B C Cadet Honour Band

Air Cadet Scott Galbraith has been selected for the B C Honour Band for the year 2000. He is among three of 67 projects in Canada approved by the National Millennium Bureau. As a percussionist he will tour communities in British Columbia with the Cadet Honour Band.

Northern Lights College proposes tourism info centre in Chetwynd

A March 7 submission to council approved a plan by Northern Lights College to run a visitor information centre in Chetwynd from April 1 to May 19 and Sept 5 to Oct 31 2000 for five days weekly seven hours daily, then seven days weekly 2 hours daily from May 20 to Sept 4. The project employs practicum staff, supports students with disabilities, and uses a $43 462.55 budget.
