Chetwynd seeks regional fairness on school taxes at NCMA meeting

At the North Central Municipal Association gathering in Valemount May 1 to 3, Chetwynd will push two resolutions. One asks the Ministry of Finance to reassess school taxes regionally so residents in the same region pay a fair amount, regardless of home value. The other urges elimination of the provincial sales tax in the Peace region to help local businesses compete with Alberta. Mayor Charlie Lasser notes average Chetwynd home value far higher than in Dawson Creek, yet services are similar.
