Chetwynd joins protests against oil labour ruling
Chetwynd District council joins northeastern municipalities unhappy with a decision to require oil companies to follow the same labour rules as other industries. The ruling ends a temporary variance May 1, with local concerns over competitiveness, costs, and cross‑border moves to Alberta. Mayor Charlie Lasser and Conn. Thor Prucks urge regionally tailored labour standards and warn jobs may shift to Grande Prairie. The council will draft a letter to Labour Minister John Cashore outlining worries.
