Police court in Chetwynd fined Olice Patrick a total of 350 dollars on three counts. She received 300 dollars or 90 days for a March 3 impaired driving incident, 25 dollars or seven days for driving without a license, and 25 dollars or seven days for obtaining food by fraud.
A California resident Norman Sawchuck owned a vehicle that burned five miles west of Chetwynd last week. In police court last Thursday Lillian Knott had public mischief charges dismissed. A village juvenile received two years probation after a conviction for Attempted theft.
The Chetwynd Gymkhana Club schedules its monthly meeting for Monday March 18 at 7:30 PM in the Canfor board room. The club plans a dance on April 16 and reports its electric timer is under construction and will be ready for the first gymkhana of the year.
The Cariboo Logger reports on IWA union actions against Chetwynd Forest Industries including back pay to five members and alleged coercion. Local Metis leader Frank Gladue files discrimination complaints with District Judge Levis over Judge Williams. Dr John Lennox letters the editor praise a teacher, prompting reader compliments.
A candlelight ceremony highlighted a February 22 dinner as the hospital auxiliary installed its new executive. Mrs Grant Hoy of Fort Nelson, regional representative, performed the installation. Advance membership tickets for the Chetwynd and District Hospital Society will be available from the organizers.
The Chetwynd Jaycees sponsor a two night per week public speaking course of four weeks set to begin later in March. Registrations via Mrs Louella Burnham at 788-2532. Easter candy baskets offered by the Women's Hospital Auxiliary with orders taken by Mrs Drake at 8-2082 or Mrs Dalke at 8-2678. Mrs Hoffman reported 29 candy stripers and Fort Nelson auxiliary income ideas were shared. Next meeting slated for 8 p.m. March 28 in the Evergreen Room of the Chetwynd Hotel.
Chetwynd school trustee Earnie Pfanner and Dawson Creek trustee W Bottemiller failed to restore courtesy bus service for independent students at the Chetwynd Seventh Day Adventist School for the term. At the February 21 Dawson Creek meeting the board rejected the motion with two abstentions, urging the province to amend the Public Schools Act to permit independent pupils to secure bus arrangements.
The Winter Warmth program, funded by federal funds and sponsored by the British Columbia Association of Non-status Indian, targets Metis homes in the Chetwynd and Moberly Lake region. Six homes in Moberly Lake and nine in Chetwynd qualify. repairs average about 300 dollars per home, with two workers in each community. The provincial allocation totals 100000 dollars. Work began February 29 and is expected to finish within two months.

One play will advance to the B C finals in Prince Rupert in June.
