Tumbler Ridge mayor urges talks to stave Quintette Mine closure
Victoria Clay Iles asks Premier Dosanjh and Teck Corp to meet immediately to explore delaying Quintette Coal closure on Aug. 31. The mayor, noting one half of the town’s 2,700 residents rely on the mine, says an orderly transition is needed while a Jobs Protection Commissioner reviews viability. The town’s growth tied to Teck’s Quintette and Bullmoose mines dates to the 1980s with major government investment.
