New name for lake may be China Lake

Rick Davison reports the lake northwest of Hudson's Hope formerly Chinaman Lake could be renamed China Lake after the Environment Ministry seeks approval from the Peace River Regional District and Hudson's Hope District Council. The change would honor local settlers while replacing a derogatory term.

Hudson's Hope asks to shed road duties from province

Hudson's Hope officials pressed Minister of Municipal Affairs to relinquish two local roads and resist taking over a third, citing heavy work and boundary concerns. In November the province handed Peace Canyon Rd and Beryl Prairie Rd to the district but later delayed transfers for a year. The nine km Farrell Creek Rd segment remains under dispute as the council seeks smaller boundaries to exclude it and notes the road’s Crown land origins.
