Cantor Limited Chetwynd Division announces a two million dollar modernization at the Planer Facility to update the outfeed system and install automatic lumber sorting, packaging, wrapping, and banding. Construction begins in August with completion by year end, improving efficiency while avoiding layoffs.

R C M P responded to a midnight June 17 report of gas odor at Hasler Flats. Police detected faint hydrogen sulfide but no gas leak at the nearby well site. Officials concluded daytime work odors drifted down the valley.
The Chetwynd Village Council received a 20000 grant from Economic Minister Don Phillips to cover copy and reproduction rights for the Chetwynd Community Plan, part of a total 25000 plan cost. Mayor Lasser notes the gamble due to expected growth and says the council will thank the province. Dawson Creek Outreach opens room 207 in Foothills Building with Dorothy Armstrong as full time outreach worker and itinerant CEC counsellor sharing the office.
