Kibbutz life and the lure of commune living

In Israel a kibbutz offers a self contained socialist style community where families work the land and children are raised apart from parents aiming for a classless society. The piece discusses army equality, shared work, and the perceived tradeoffs with individuality and personal freedom amid broader North American trends toward collectivism. It notes concerns about child care, gender integration, and the state’s role in enforcing collective norms, drawing parallels to co op housing and communist theory. James G. Magus
