Critters and beasties of Moberly Lake
Last week bald eagles clashed on the beach with one intruder knocked into the lake. A robin nest sits atop posts near the garage while another pair quarrels at intruders. Downy and hairy woodpeckers, flickers, sapsuckers, belted kingfishers and a beaver forage nightly. Barn swallows test nest sites from porch eaves to a porch lamp. Tree swallows hatch most eggs, violet green swallows abandon, and a bold house wren bullies nearby birds. A chickadee feeds near the wren nest as the wren attacks. A lone loon is spotted, but its cry remains unheard for now.
