The third Tough Gye Challenge in Ft. St John on June 9 featured 108 entrants in a three leg event: 6 miles running, 8 miles canoeing, and 17 miles biking. The Chetwynd team of Hank Krawczyk, Bryan Millar, Dan Carson, and Ted Calliou placed second, narrowly missing first by two seconds as Hank and Dan improved in canoeing and Brian led the final biking leg. Plan to train for year four. canoe lessons available through Paddle People.

Bridge crash on East Pine injures none. damage heavy
A collision between an Edmonton Freightliner driven by Terrence Zaparniuk and a Grande Prairie Borstad Welding trailer driven by Dennis Prefontaine on the East Pine bridge caused about 65 000 in damage. A sprained finger was the only injury as fuel leaks and welding supplies spilled and the bridge closed for five hours.
