The Board of School District No. 59 met in Chetwynd at the Library in the Secondary School. A revised list of course fees prepared by Secondary School Principals was considered and accepted. The fees range across multiple units, reflecting updates across offered courses.
The Chetwynd Hockey School risks cancellation if 110 applications are not reached by June 18. As of now 49 have registered, with August 4 to 16 set for the program. If short of applicants, the Figure Skating School may also be halted. Interest in curling was dropped earlier due to low entries.
Methu the performing elephant, born at Portland Zoo as the second captive, was bought by a zoo trainer who trained her slowly. Wallace & Rogers Circus has rented her for two years, turning her into a nationwide star seen by thousands of children and even touring as far north as Alaska.
Seventeen women from 15 of 24 Western Dioceses gathered in Edmonton June 3 and 4 with Bishop James Mahoney to map local parish level studies on the role of Catholic women. Co chaired by Anne Dea and Marion Penna the group aims to finish the study in 1976, underscoring Church partnership of women and men.

Environment Canada minister Jeanne Sauve announced results from a seven month national monitoring program on lead in lead-free gasoline. Of 2,100 stations studied, 28 offered lead-free fuel with lead levels above the permissible 0.06 grams per imperial gallon. Sauve said violators have taken corrective action.
