Chetwynd Council reviews routes and youth program plan
At the June 3 1980 meeting Mayor Pfanner reported on discussions with BP officials and a Japanese delegation about North East coal and potential routes through Chetwynd and Anzac. The Chamber of Commerce voiced concerns about economic losses if the Anzac route proceeds. Spectrum Enterprises sought ALR exclusion for District Lot 1816 to enable Rural zoning and later development. Dennis Nightwonger outlined a summer program including a supervised playground and FIRST AID COURES courses.

Rainfall Cuts Fire Danger Across British Columbia
Chris Rand reports rainfall has reduced fire danger from high to low in the Chetwynd area. Over three weeks 154 fires burned province wide with 5 major blazes in Prince George region. Total area burned this year is 35000 ha, with 629 fires to date versus 295 last year. Cleanup near Hudson Hope continues with 10 men, and all burning now requires burn permits as equipment is readied for return.

Forum on Juvenile Crime and Vandalism Addressed by Panel
A forum on juvenile crime and vandalism was held last Thursday at Chetwynd High School with panelists including Wayne Fram, Mayor E Pfanner, Jim Struthers, Constable Bob Brown, RCMP representative, and Patty Dunn. The event covered responsibilities within the justice system, new village programs, and the Veto Vandalism initiative, with late public turnout and questions from attendees. Additionally, two year old Conan David Glover remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle driven by 18 year old Kenneth Michael Plourde. he was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital.

The annual Chetwynd Rodeo and Parade sponsored by the Lions Club will be held Saturday June 14 and Sunday June 15. Parade assembly at the Village office at 8:30 a.m. and judging at 9:00 a.m. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. led by the RCMP, traveling to 51st and 50th avenues then to the library. Twelve entry categories include commercial civic riding groups comedy bicycles best decorated walking groups antique cars Indian rider and pony musical groups tricycles best dressed cowgirl and horse and best dressed cowboy and horse.

Chetwynd Hospital Society Annual Meeting Held June 18
The Chetwynd and District Hospital annual meeting occurs Wednesday June 18 at 8 pm in the Hospital Cafeteria. Three Trustees will be elected to the Board of Management joining existing trustees. Reports from the Chairman, Administrator, Medical Staff and Hospital Auxiliary will be presented along with a financial statement showing the budget above one million dollars. Members may renew memberships before the meeting. A parade category is open with contact at 788-9128. The rodeo begins daily at 1:30 pm at the rodeo grounds as an official NRA event with seven mandatory events listed.

Ministers visit Chetwynd to inspect highway work
The Honourable Don Phillips M L A and Minister of Economic Development and Mr Alex Fraser Minister of Highways will visit Chetwynd on Tuesday June 10. Fraser will drive from Prince George to review highway construction progress and to appraise overall progress. They will meet Mayor Ernest Pfanner and village council members.
