Doctor resigns from hospital in Chetwynd case
On July 20, 1983, Gerald F. Webb M D resigned permanently from the medical staff of Chetwynd General Hospital during a Hearing before the Joint Advisory Committee. A petition signed by over 440 residents demanded reinstatement of Webb’s hospital privileges. The Board suspended Webb’s privilege to practice as of July 1, 1983 and agreed to grant a hearing on June 30 to determine whether Webb’s Privileges should be reinstated.

Trade Show Postponed to Spring 1984 by Chamber of Commerce
The Transportation and Trade Show sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce has been rescheduled to spring 1984. A committee, chaired by Henry Dyck, was formed to organize the event. Ray Cunningham asked the District Council for moral and financial support at the July 19 meeting, seeking seed money for promotion rentals and one full time organizer for about six weeks to ensure exhibitor participation.

Award Fo contract for paving Chetwynd Tumbler Ridge Highway
A 2.33 million dollar contract to pave 33.4 kilometres of the Chetwynd Tumbler Ridge Highway from Gwillim Lake Park boundary to Bullmoose was awarded to Columbia Biulithic of Vancouver. Transport minister Alex V Fraser and Don Phillips announced the award, with completion planned by mid summer 1984. Meanwhile Dr. Webb’s hospital privileges at Chetwynd General Hospital were suspended after a July 1983 hearing was adjourned and then his resignation accepted. officials stressed it concerned hospital relations, not Webb’s competence, and he will maintain his Chetwynd practice.

Vintage Car Club Birthday Tour heads to British Columbia towns
The Vintage Car Club of Canada marks its 25th anniversary with a province wide tour from Victoria July 22 to Vancouver August 6 visiting 15 chapters in BC including a Chetwynd stop July 27 28.
