UBC Receives Mobile Lung Testing Unit Donation
A $130,000 mobile lung testing van donated by the Workmen's Compensation Board and the British Columbia Lung Association will be used by UBC's Respiratory Division at WGH to test workers and others exposed to lung-damaging conditions. Dr. Adam Little of the WCB and Mr. Bill King of the Lung Association describe the project as a cooperative effort to boost vocational medicine and public health across the province.

Chetwynd gets loan for housing sub-division development
Economic Development Minister Don Phillips announced a 1,322,000 loan to the Village of Chetwynd for a residential subdivision. The province also transferred 14 percent of crown land (35.8 acres) to create 128 lots for mobile homes and single detached housing. Phase 1 covers 68 lots, phase 2 60, with prices between 10 000 and 11 000 dollars.

Day care workers offered clerical jobs as centers close
Vancouver Centre MLA Emery O. Barnes criticized the Social Credit government for shutting eight day care centers and giving parents 30 days notice. He said staff are being offered clerical roles or unemployment, affecting nearly 200 single and working-parent families. Barnes accused the minister of harming people and shirking ministry duties.

Building permits pass the $3 million mark
The Village of Chetwynd reports over three million dollars in building permits issued this year. June saw seven permits totaling 187,495 dollars, including four residential permits and three commercial. YTD permits total 63 for 3,218,479 dollars with several projects under construction and new businesses opening.

School board authority limits teacher aide payments and employment
