Spills at W A C Bennett and Peace Canyon Dams Rise
BC Hydro increased spills at the W A C Bennett Dam and Peace Canyon Dam to about 60 000 and 63 000 cfs respectively. Spills began July 8 with an initial 12 000 cfs and are forecast to continue until about July 24 depending on inflows to Williston Reservoir. The W A C Bennett and GM Shrum facilities have 2.7 million kW capacity, while Peace Canyon Generating Station delivers about 700 000 kW. Visit BC Hydro’s site for details.

Pembina Pipeline Tightens Inspections and Backpressure Measures
Pembina Pipeline plans to be operating by month end after five year internal inspections per policy. The baseline assessment sets inspection intervals, with more resources directed to high consequence areas. Environmental risk and operational assessments lead to backpressure valve installations, improved corrosion monitoring, aerial patrols, and enhanced leak detection. BC hydro projects add discharge at dams and a ninth genset at Shrum, boosting Williston inflows due to rains. Downstream communities are kept informed as spill and discharge rise to 118 000 cfs. Williston Reservoir snow pack at 120 percent of normal, runoff delayed.
