Deficit down Collins predicts faster growth
Finance Minister Gary Collins announced last year’s deficit came in $700 million under expectations with a $2.7 billion deficit excluding accounting adjustments. He cited a 1.7 percent growth forecast this year, higher than the budget plan, and hinted at a September revision. Opposition criticised tax cuts, while Collins defended Liberal cost-cutting and a 2004-05 balance goal despite health and education cuts.
