Ottawa announced the winners of the What Scouting Means to Me poster contest open to Boy Scouts of Canada and Les scouts du Canada. The winning design features a mountain camp scene and will become a commemorative stamp issued July 6 1983 to mark Scouting’s 75th anniversary and the World Scout Jamboree in Alberta.

Renovation plan ends this week in Canada
Ottawa report notes the Canada Home Renovation Plan ends next Tuesday with applications received by CMHC before July 12 1983 to be processed. Minister Romeo LeBlanc attributes a dramatic rise in applications to the budget announcement of April 19 signaling economic recovery. Province reports record tree planting in Prince George region
The spring program in the Prince George Forest Region planted over 35 million seedlings on 30 000 hectares, with 4.4 million more to come in late summer, totaling more than 40 million plants a third of the 1983 provincial goal. Region coordinator Bill Williams says planting is rising and aims for 61 million annually by 1987, despite May heat issues.

Spirit Lives On at 15th World Scout Jamboree in Canada
The Spirit Lives On theme marks the 15th World Scout Jamboree at Kananaskis. Lieutenant Governor Ed Shreyer opens the event on July 6 in front of 1400 scouts from around the world, including Brian Nousek Jr. and Lee Dixon from Chetwynd. A rainstorm flooded the site, forcing relocation of about 500 boys. Canada Post released a 75th anniversary Scout stamp that day.

The District Council met July 5 1983 with Ald Schmok as acting Mayor and Ald Temple away in Ottawa. Delegation from Keith Massey proposed relocating a Little Giant sign and installing a welcome sign west of town. Official opening for bridges on Wednesday
Two new bridges on the Tumbler Ridge access road will be officially opened Wednesday July 13 by Transportation and Highways Minister Alex V Fraser and Industry and Small Business Development Minister Don Phillips. A ribbon cutting at Murray River Bridge is scheduled for 11 00 a m and another at Twidwell Bend at 5 p m. The event includes a tour by car along the Heritage Highway before returning to Chetwynd for the second ceremony. Mayor Charles Lasser invites residents to attend the openings. The Chetwynd Chamber will arrange a bus for attendees, with reservations by phone.

Hydro projects generate over 102 million man-hours in B C
Nine British Columbia Hydro projects have produced more than 102 million man-hours, 128,000 jobs, and over a billion dollars in wages for construction tradespeople.
