BC pulp and paper workers settle contract dispute
In Vancouver Canadian workers vote 64 percent to approve a three year deal with no raise first year and gains of four and four and a half percent in years two and three. Base rate $12.96. Unions involved are Canadian Paper Workers Union and Pulp Paper and Wood Workers of Canada. International Wood Workers of America accepted the same terms earlier. The dispute cost millions and hit the economy hard while many companies posted losses in early 1984. This contract begins a broader North American series of forest talks.
