Chetwynd Council Meeting Debates Arts Grant and Ads
Chetwynd and District Council met July 3 with most members present. The Expo 86 committee requested funding and the Arts Council sought a $1000 civic grant for matching provincial funds. Provincial Library grants total 6.29 million across 81 bodies
Public library grants totaling 6,288,157 dollars were announced by Provincial Secretary James Chabot to 81 library bodies. The funds maintain last year’s level for purchasing materials with extra support to Burns Lake Terrace Grand Forks Mackenzie and Prince George following expanded service areas approved in November elections. The minister praised the province’s public libraries.

Chetwynd Library Welcomes Kevin Kierans to Town

Beebe takes bar oath amid Chetwynd ties and council news
Gordon N Beebe an articled student with Barrister Solicitor and Notary Public, is called to take his oath July 10 1984 in Vancouver. Beebe plans to practice with E Roy Cochrane in Chetwynd and commute to Tumbler Ridge and Hudson Hope. Tourist Information Centre opens season with staff hires
On May 14 1984 the Tourist Information Centre opened for the season hiring Debbie Press one of six student tourist counsellors. Debbie from Chetwynd studied at Chetwynd Secondary School and University of Victoria and will pursue Social Sciences. Jackie LeBel assists, Michelle Abinati is a grade twelve student from Chetwynd, and Bob McDonald runs the Caboose. The staff promotes Tumbler Ridge Alaska Highway and dam sites, sells souvenirs, and offers brochures for locals and visitors.

At 4 02 a m the Chetwynd Fire Department responded to a fire at the Hydro Motel. The fire started in the boiler room and damages are estimated at about 50000 dollars. The cause remains undetermined.
