Protect drivers during dispute during transport strike
The Hon ourable Robert M Strachan minister of Transport and Communications announced motorists without a valid Driver's Certificate will not be prosecuted while the strike lasts. The Attorney General's Department supports the request due to difficulties in obtaining Driver's Certificates. Motorists must still hold a valid Driver's License. Canfor Manager Completes Tour Of Japan Market Potential
Hal Smith, Canfor Chetwynd Division general manager, led a group of 18 B C interior lumbermen on a two week Japan tour in March. They reported strong market potential for kiln dried spruce fir dimension lumber as timber frame and prefab housing gain in Japan. Seaboard Lumber Sales arranged the tour and handles Canfor product sales offshore, including Japan. A Japanese building code change to permit western style construction could boost housing starts to 9 3 million in five years, with timber frame housing forecast to reach 80 to 90 percent within twenty years. Smith urged prompt action to expand Canfor participation and build a solid customer base.
