February brings door to door and business to business fund raising by the British Columbia Heart Foundation in Chetwynd with special events. The library hosts the Keeping Your Heart Healthy poster contest for children 4 to 13, posters on display all February, and prize ceremony February 25. A Heart Fund Bonspiel runs February 15 to 17 with live entertainment bars and a Dawson Creek to Vancouver trip prize donated by PWA.

Proceeds from Bonspiel go to Heart Fund and weekend rink package offers plus bus and motel deals. Also 7th annual Pancake Breakfast February 17 supports Heart Fund.

Chester A Johnson, president of West Fraser Timber, becomes Chairman and CEO of En Seerhe BT Renenh as Robert Bonner resigns. Johnson will split duties between West Fraser and BC Hydro while Douglas Floyd is appointed executive vice president for all West Fraser lumber operations and joint ventures with Eurocan. Floyd based in Quesnel will report to Johnson. Johnson had chaired the Executive Management Committee.

Provincial Court actions and fines plus executive profile
On January 17 in Provincial Court Judge D M Levis issued a bench warrant for Elden Burns. Multiple defendants pled guilty under the Motor Vehicle Act and Wildlife Act with fines ranging from 15 to 1000 dollars and terms up to 30 days. A lumber industry executive, Mr. Johnson, noted as a prominent interior figure, led Whonnock Industries, later joining West Fraser Timber Company after stepping down as CEO in 1980. He was educated at Lord Byng High School and UBC, earning a commerce degree and accounting charter. He served in the RCAF during WWII and helped found Casabella Wines in the early years.

Community helps build hockey rink at Moberly Lake School
Two months after inquiry from Moberly Lake School students about a hockey team, locals and nearby towns rally to fund and assemble a rink. Dale Phillips provides pipe, West Coast Transmission crew builds goal frames, a donated net arrives, and volunteers ready the facility as twenty players enjoy the skating space.

Seat belt credited with saving life in crash west of Chetwynd
Police report from January 22, 1985, describes a two vehicle collision 25 km west of Chetwynd on Highway 97 near Hassler Flats. A westbound car reared a disabled logging truck. the car driver, treated for chest injuries at Chetwynd Hospital, credited to wearing a seat belt. The logging truck driver was charged with failing to post warning devices.
