Regional district grants PRAHTA balance of 83 84 funds

At a Chetwynd meeting the Peace River Liard Regional District voted to provide PRAHTA with the remaining 83 84 grant. PRAHATA delegates attended with three members presenting. Past President Bunne Hoffman outlined PRAHATA’s role and history from the Associated Chambers of Commerce to PRAHATA and its tourism focus in Region H of Northern British Columbia. The organization emphasizes tourism as a revenue source and acts as a bridge between chambers and the BC Chamber of Commerce.

Pulp Industry to Issue Lockout Notice in BC

British Columbia pulp and paper sector plans a 72 hour lockout of Canadian Paperworkers' Union and PPWC if no bargaining progress by January 30. Industry says unions delay talks, harming economy. IWA already agreed to terms but CPU and PPWC have terminated or resisted terms. Saunders of the Pulp and Paper Industrial Relations Bureau urges settlement, noting edgy customers amid prolonged negotiations.

Chetwynd Council Reviews Minor Hockey Playoffs Support

The January 24 meeting heard from Bob Nicholson of the Minor Hockey Association seeking council backing for Bantam Provincial Playoffs to be held March 19 to 23. Council promised discussion and a decision at the next meeting. The session also covered correspondence on Legion Zone 45 attendance, tax penalties, transport reports, and zoning updates.
