Council Briefs Highlights Radio Station Plans and Funding
Council heard from the B C Assessment Authority on property values and assessment trends. Leo Sabulsky sought council support for a community radio station and a CRT C location near Chetwynd Secondary School. The ministry said municipalities won’t gain liquor regulation powers, but review of the Liquor Control Act may occur. The district sought tenders to seed and harvest hay at the airport and Pine Valley Exhibition Park. Funding was approved to upgrade the Water Dispenser with a key lock and to lease 11 breathing apparatus units for five years. A new dog pound and public works shop were authorized. Northern native broadcasting will begin in February with day and night programming and Cree language content, plus elders, leaders, and local events. The Saulteau First Nations station, 96.1 FM, is highlighted as a community asset through Terrance Armstrong.
