Public sector and youth crime trends in Canada and BC in 1999
In 1999 BC public sector employment stood at 81 per 1000 residents, with BC holding the second-lowest rate nationwide. AIDS positives totaled four from 68,807 tested. BC youth 12 to 17 charged with violent crimes numbered 2,891 in 1998, with 106,984 youths charged nationwide that year and violence rates rising. Exports to Asia, led by Japan, declined through 1997 into 1998, though some markets recovered by late 1999. Japan accounted for over two thirds of 1998 BC exports, with diversification and declines in coal and mineral shipments shaping the trend.
