Bank of B C reports 51 million loan losses for 1983
Vancouver CP report notes shareholder concerns at the Bank of B C annual meeting over 51 million dollars in loan losses for 1983, with 28 million in 1982. Chairman Trevor Pilley calls the figure unbelievable and says losses are charged to contingencies forming part of capital, while 1983 total capital rose by 19 million. He says none of the losses relate to Dome Petroleum loans and hints at better 1984 results. He mentions discussions about the Devonshire Hotel site in Vancouver and urges cooperative effort for an economic upturn.
