Chetwynd Town Hall Focuses on Canfor Layoffs Recovery
The District of Chetwynd and PRRD hosted a Town Hall at Cottonwood Hall to aid workers affected by Canfor’s mill closure. More than 70 attendees heard from MLA Blair Lekstrom, PRRD’s Tim Caton, Service Canada, Northern Lights College, and School District No. 59 about reemployment services, EI help, and future regional opportunities including renovations to the Rec Centre next spring. Lekstrom urged optimism the mill will reopen and the markets will improve south of the border.
