B C Tel cuts long distance rates nationwide in 1989
B C Tel lowers Canada wide long distance prices effective January 1 by 12 to 33 percent with drops of 12.7 percent in B C calls and 33.2 percent to Alberta as approval came December 19 1988. Earlier in 1988 further cuts included trans Canada calls by about 33 percent since July 1987 and 35 percent for B C intra province calls since April 1 1988.

Chetwynd awards final grant for Multi-Purpose Building Complex
The District of Chetwynd accepted the final installment of 150 000 toward the 500 000 Expo Legacy Grant for the Pine Valley Exhibition Park Committee. The project will host local indoor events this year thanks to community donations and volunteer work. Fort St John Junior Stamp Club asked council on January 3 for support in commemorative Alaska Highway stamps, receiving backing from MPs regional governments and officials. council agreed to send a letter of support.
