Scouts honor founders with Baden Powell dinner in Chetwynd
During the Scouts and Guides tribute week February 19 to 24 a Lord Robert Baden Powell and Lady Olave Baden Powell celebration was held at the Legion in Chetwynd. A film of the Scout Jam Boree from Calgary 1983 was shown as part of the event. The Lord Baden Powell dinner was catered by the Little Swiss Inn with 90 percent of funds raised by Scouts.

Town Centre boundary set in Chetwynd zoning plan
A public hearing reviewed the OCP and Zoning bylaw with a proposed Town Centre boundary along the RCMP station to highway 97 corridor. The plan designates development area, shifts south access from light industrial to service commercial, and notes no immediate firehall build. A neighborhood pub is planned at 47th Ave and 47th St. A drainage study of Windrem Creek may divert flow. Bylaws 362 and 363 received third readings. A six dollar per family charge was added. Master of Ceremonies Glen Hanna led the event with remarks by Mayor Lasser and other officials, including Romy Huska and Darla Dickson.

Canfor reports 1983 losses are reduced
Vancouver Canfor Corporation says 1983 ended with a 44.7 million dollar loss or 2.45 a share after preferred dividends and net sales of 995.1 million. The previous year showed an 85.7 million dollar loss on 729.6 million in sales. In the fourth quarter the loss was 16.8 million dollars or 9 cents per preferred, versus 34.5 million in the 1982 quarter.

Arts council hosts two special guests and events
The Chetwynd Community Arts Council invites Mrs. Donn Yates and Mr. Bob Bennetts to discuss community arts at the March 10 meeting in the Catholic Church meeting room at 8 pm. A juried Dawson Creek art show runs March 1 to 14 with entry due February 25. Images and Objects II will be shown May 15 to 19 in Penticton as part of the Festival of the Arts, with works sent from Dawson Creek and one regional participant funded. The forest products group reports a 1983 operating income of 2.5 million and an 82.7 million loss in 1982. 1984 visions cautious optimism amid a lockout and renewed bargaining.
