Canfor Reports 1984 Loss Despite Higher Sales
Canfor Corporation posted a loss before extraordinary items of 28.3 million for 1984, down from 45 million in 1983. Net loss was 30.9 million or 1.83 per share, versus 44.7 million or 2.45 per share in 1983. Net sales rose to 1,029.95 million from 995.1 million. Q4 loss before extraordinary items stood at 12.2 million, with a net Q4 loss of 15.2 million and sales of 248.6 million, up marginally from 240.1 million. CEO Peter Bentley cited labor disputes and weak pulp prices, plus currency effects and new capacity, as factors.
