District adds sulfuric acid to Chetwynd drinking water
The District of Chetwynd will add sulfuric acid to its drinking water to reduce pH from 8.8 to about 7.6 while ammonia and chlorine levels are monitored. Public works director Gary Kaullbach says the change poses no harm to drinkers and notes the need for new equipment and evaluation by a chemist. He cites widespread use of sulfuric acid in water systems and asserts the method reacts only with alk acidity.
