Over the past two weeks local citizens settled infractions with voluntary penalties. Wayne Owen Bertram paid 39.00 under Section 15 DCTA. Jack R. Ganson paid 101.00 on February 8 1974 under Section 15. Barry R. Ganson paid 112.00 on February 14 under Section 15.
In Prince George early February Class C ski races featured Chetwynd skiers Eddy and Rick Schreiber Ross Turner Jimmy Shirley Rodney Hanson Charles Elden and Brent Westgate. The 13 and up races showcase province wide talent with daily practice and full time coaches cited as reason for pride. Also noted are several local legal penalties including James Hutchison Seo Paul Chamberland Edward Esther and Harold Sochan with fines from 25 to 100 dollars and driving suspension for Sochan.
Mayor Hayward returned from Victoria enthusiastic about ministers and village officials. Lorne Nicholson and Geo Chatterton pledged a workable housing deal by weather permitting, covering 42 serviced lots and 62 Crown subdivision lots. Dennis Cocke and regional district plan to erase the $50,000 hospital debt. St Manika hospital posted a slight 1973 profit. Further developments to be announced.
The C W L sponsors an Arts and Crafts Show in the Hotel Ballroom on March 16 with doors at 1 p.m. The event, now annual, invites town residents to display diverse talents. entry limits apply, a small fee charged, and exhibitors enter once per class with liability assumed by exhibitors. Previous exhibitors may not reenter.
The Vancouver Children’s Hospital marks half a century of province wide care with a growing preventative program. Two years ago newborn screening began in seven hospitals across Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and the Okanagan. Parents received urine test kits to be mailed back on dry filter paper to the Metabolic Unit before four weeks old.
The Lions International seeks to create a world understanding spirit, promote good government and citizenship, engage in civic cultural social and moral welfare, unite clubs in friendship and mutual understanding, and provide a forum for open public discussion, while excluding partisan politics and sectarian religion.
Debates over club values and service ideals continue as local men form a Lions Club. Charter night is scheduled for May 11, with members aiming to foster service, efficiency and high ethical standards in commerce and public life. Meanwhile, a curling event drew cheers at the rink, and a farewell party honored Marion and George Dale as they move north.
Chetwynd Lions held a meeting at the Chetwynd Motor Hotel on Wednesday February 20 to organize a Lions Club and elect officers for the coming year. Bob McNabb Ken Waters one year. A charter night is set for May 11 1974 with time and place to be announced.
Dr Bill Wieland D.V.M. has set up a veterinary service for Chetwynd and surrounding region with headquarters at the Nick Negu farm. He will operate in Chetwynd on Monday to Wednesday and in Mackenzie on Thursday and Friday, seeking office and clinic space for possible full-time village service. A 1972 University of Minnesota graduate, he spent eight months in Vanderhoof and the past year and a half at the Prince George clinic.
Dick Quan sells Dick’s Restaurant to Vancouver’s Yip brothers John Wai and Ken. Yips Gate plans facility upgrades and catering for parties while preserving Dick’s cuisine reputation in Chetwynd. Delivery service will be offered as they continue serving the local community.
