Basford outlines Northeast Coal plans at Civic Night
Ron Basford, director of North East Coal Development, told Chetwynd residents that he is a civil servant not a politician and credited Don Phillips for moving the project forward. He cited $77 million spent in 1981 on Tumbler Ridge services and campsites, $285 million planned for 1982, and said Ridley Island port and contracts were finalized in late 1981 and 1982. He defended press reports claiming no agreement and warned crises would be managed as the three year project progresses.
