Funds for forests create more jobs in British Columbia
Vancouver South MP John Fraser announced on behalf of Flora MacDonald that 13,063,801 in Canada Works Section 38 funds will extend forest improvement projects across British Columbia. About 8,435,700 from Section 38 Unemployment Insurance Act will create 1,656 jobs and 26,780 work weeks on Crown lands and reserve forests. Projects cover forest stand tending, thinning, spacing, and other improvement activities to raise yields and shorten harvesting time, supporting forest policy priorities of the Canadian Forestry Service and BC Ministry of Forests.

Fire destroys home in Moberly Lake. donations urged

Canfor TFL approvals mark first in new tenure format
Canfor Limited wins provincial approval to replace its Chetwynd forest licence with a tree farm licence under section 27.1 of the forest act. The move sets a precedent for TFLS, with 1.5 percent AAC carved for woodlot licences and 13.5 percent for small business timber sales. Reforestation costs are borne by Canfor over 20 years, while 90 percent of TFL timber will be sold by contract loggers. Public meetings in Chetwynd are scheduled Feb 12, 21, and March 5 to discuss the TFL plans.
